Writer's Workshop

Under "Fabulous Links" you will see a fabulous lady called Mama Kat. This is my third attempt at her Writer's Workshop.

*Warning the following post contains excessive dorkiness. Please bear with me.

-------------------------------

This may come as a surprise, but I AM COMICON-ATTENDING, WORLD OF WARCRAFT LOVING, GAMER. It all started at the tender age of 9 when I received the oringal Nintedo NES from Santa (my dad's way of trying to compensate for living in an all female house surrounded by ballet lessons and tutus.)

After about 2 days of trying to "bond" with my little sis and I, and being completely schooled by his two young daughters at Super Mario Bros, he gave up. That year I spent hours challenging male cousins to tournaments in games like Elevator Action and DKJ. Oh the giddiness at beating them -my passion for gaming was born!

In high school, I graduated to a more sophisticated N64. I once played Mario Cart for 18 hours straight. No, I am not making this up. Lucky for me I later started dating a boy (now my husband) who also had a thing for Mario Cart. It is through that passion (addiction?) that I got the nickname, "Peach." Well, "Princess Peach" to be exact, but just call me Peach for short (he still does).

I love how unforgiving Peach is as she shoots on past her buddies with a smarmy little "Thank you!" She's seems like she is being proper, but really you know she's thinking, "Eat my tiara boys!" She's my favorite kind of princess!

After my Mario Cart years, I spent a lot of college playing Zelda: Octarina of Time. This is probably why I got a C in Calculus (stupid Water Temple, oh how you taunted me!), but boy was it worth it.

In the last few years I had moved on from console games to PC gaming. I REALLY loved Diablo until I discovered the World of Warcraft. And I thought I has spent a lot of time gaming before.....oh boy.... Have you guys seen the episode of Southpark about WoW? Yes, it really is like that. (Minus the fact that I DID take potty breaks, that's just dirty.)

Anyways, my husband and I had to put our games away when we discovered I was pregnant with Noah. I just couldn't be a mommy and be pwning mage too. So now I blog instead! ;)

Long story short. My husband still calls me "Peach" after all the time we have spent gaming together. And that's how I got the nickname "Peach."

My husband had a similar addiction. He hid it well for years. Occasionally playing PC games with restraint. Then a couple years ago the addiction returned for a week when he downloaded the old original Zelda and had to beat it all over again. Then last year he introduced the girls to mario and our world has never been the same. My four year old lives in a video game. Every square is a whomper and she runs around making sound effects. This minute she is pretending to be de Blog, conquering the bad guys and bring color back to my house!

Were you too young to game with Atari? :) All the cool kids had one. But I'm sure I'm WAY older than you. :)

I love video games, too! But I am not nearly as advanced as you are. I know very little about WOW. I still have my Super NES, which is still my fave. I like Mario Allstars and the original Sim City. Yes, they are dinosaurs of video games, but I love them. Great post! Love the name Peaches!

I try to take interest in everything that my husband enjoys, that way we can spend time together. I won't mention that its not reciprocated - but, eh - whatev. Anyhow, he got me addicted to WoW too. Before that, I would never call myself a gamer.

Princess Peach is my favorite prince too!!! I miss my original NES and have tried to buy one for a while. Unfortunatly they won't work on our tv's. Maybe it's time to buy a retro tv too. Great post. :)

Great story and a very desirable nickname. Sure beats Tails or Frogger.

Haha, it's not the actual sticker that bothers me... it's all the germs and 'icky' stuff that sticks to them!! LOL New stickers are totally fine, but used ones remind me of old used band-aids you find laying on the ground... EWWWWW!! :)

LOVE mariokart. Love all mario games period.

I never graduated to pc games...I bet you could spend HOURS on those. I love that you are Peach and you're so right, her high pitched "thank you" would be enough to send any racer over the edge. Love her.

ps Your cat looks evil.

Wow, I am super impressed you don't meat to many women with you interests. My hubby is a huge gamer, in fact right now he is sitting at the table playing Dibalo like he does every night. He is a huge Nintendo geek as well. So I can totally respect your nickname, Princess Peach.

Someday, when Noah is old enough to entertain himself in a safe manner, you will dust off your hotbars, and I will power level you though WOW. Or we can just talk and continue to reminisce.

I hear WOW, Jarrod and I totally bond in our tank-healer roles, and gives us a common interest.
